Citizen Men's BN0000-04H Eco-Drive Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Watch : Review
What I love about this watch is it has many of the features found in dive watches that cost $2k and above: screw down crown and case back, one peice stainless steel case, powerful lume, and 300 meter water resistance. The finishing is a real plus too. It is brushed stainless steel, not polished, and the face is a classic design, not a carbon copy of other divers. For example, the hands are very unique and the raised hour markers look sharp. The hour markers also have powerful luminescent. After being exposed to direct sunlight the lume glows brightly even in the daylight. But at night when it really counts, the lume is clearly visible in a subtle blueish green tint, equal to my Omega Seamaster.
I like the textured pattern on the face and the fact that the 12 hour marker matches the 60 minute marker on the dive bezel. Also, the depth of the face is nice because it gives the watch a solid "deep diver" look that looks ready to be deployed. The space between the face and crystal is transitioned nicely with minute markers that are printed on the side wall, which on my watch, line up perfectly with the second hand. In my experience, this is rare for a non-swiss quartz movement.
I own several mechanical watches and favor a sweeping second hand over the hacking second hand on quartz models. However, Citizen's eco-drive is more than just a quartz because it is powered by light. The eco-drive mechanism is similar to a mechanical movement in that the power source is renewable. This is important for outdoor use when you can't have your watch battery fail.
The rubber strap is passable. It is not the most comfortable rubber strap and could stand to be a bit thicker. I like the dive table printed on the side which gives the no decompression limits or "N.D. Limits" that detail how much time a diver can spend at specific depths without ascending. But, I expect this to wear off due to use.
The reason I took off a star is that the crystal is mineral crystal and not sapphire crystal. Sapphire crystal is practically bullet-proof where mineral crystal is scratch prone. Its a step up from acrylic, but for a few extra bucks the sapphire crystal would be a huge improvement.
All in all, this is a great watch for the money and is likely to see maximum wrist time!...Read More
